I still have extremely high hopes, and it might be the first game I buy at launch all year. And, I get the impression that there was some serious creative turmoil occurring at the late stages of development and I'm somewhat concerned how that'll manifest. That's certainly not the impression I've ever had from the rest of the series, so it would be disappointing if that were the case here, but nothing presented so far seems to tell me that couldn't be the case. If the context around the events isn't in check, then the emotion won't really be there, it'd just be violence for the sake of it. I can think of a number of films that use rape, or similarly heinous acts, and just come off really manipulative and uninspired. I don't know, I feel like it would be possible to have horrible, heavy shit happen and be really weak in presenting it. Or maybe there's just less cutscenes than MGS4, so it's emoting less? I wonder if something was lost in translation. Kinda Funny Games: "It's fucking I found that statement really odd too. Respawn Ninja: 100%/100% (You can't beat it!)

Peter Brown mentioned that "pacing issues towards the end of the game momentarily halt your momentum." GameTrailers mentioned that they beat the main story in 40 hours.

Greg Miller has played 55 hours and is at 49% completion, so this game will definitely be 100-110 hours long for full completion. Polygon says that Mother Base is extremely important, and must be managed to ensure success within the game. The game is structured very similarly to Peace Walker. The biggest complaint from most reviewers seems to be that the story is sparse, and is handled clumsily at some points.

The PS4 version, which it seems most reviews are based on, runs silky smooth and has very minimal load times. Seems that people are unanimously saying that the gameplay is the best Metal Gear has ever had. So, begin the review score thread! Also, for obvious reasons, no spoilers in this thread please.

The Phantom Pain is actually one of my favorite, storywise, in the series. The main plot is over before Chapter 2 the character arcs wrap up in 32 - 50. It just kind of shows where everyone goes.

Missions 32 - 50 has a few extra pieces in them, but really it's like a character montage in the season finale of a TV Show. You really have to pay attention less to what happens and more to how the characters react and what actions they take that's what MGSV is all about.Īlthough the game has 50 missions, it really ends at Mission 31. The characters have development in different ways as well, some, however, are quite static. It may seem lite of "story" at first, but one you finish the game you'll realize what it was all about. There's not an extensive use of cutscenes or anything like that, rather the game is almost specifically about the themes that come out of it (sorry for being vague, I'm just trying not to spoil anything). MGSV uses a different style of storytelling than the first four games do.
